New Rights For Agency Workers

News-no-image-original

A new European Directive was agreed to this week, which will ensure agency workers get equal treatment rights after they have worked on the same assignment for 12 weeks. This means agency workers will be entitled to the same pay as permanent staff doing the same job. They will also now have much stronger legal protection from exploitation.

The General Secretary of the TUC, Brendan Barber, said: “This new Directive is the result of six years of committed campaigning by unions. Too many agency workers in the UK have faced unfair treatment and injustice. Now agency workers will now finally have a fair deal.”

The law does not give qualifying agency workers the same rights as permanent employees to sick pay and pensions.
