New rules for landlords "unreasonable"
New rules for landlords being introduced by the government have been described as "unreasonable".
According to Chris Horne, editor of the Property Hawk website, while some rules are necessary to protect tenants, the government seems to be extending the controls and regulations too far.
He said: "Whilst I support landlords taking action in respect of laws which have been introduced purely to protect the safety of tenants, what I and Property Hawk object to is more and more legislation and regulation that offer very little positive benefit."
The expert made specific reference to the proposed landlords' licence.
A report commissioned by the Labour administration in January 2008 and published by Julie Rugg and David Rhodes of the University of York suggested that all private residential landlords should acquire such a licence before they are able to rent to tenants.
Mr Horne said that such changes would mean landlords have more "hoops" to jump through.
