Office manager taking MP to court for failing to pay compensation
Posted by Mark Cunningham
Marion Kinley, the former office manager of MP Jim Devine, is taking the politician to court to force him to pay the compensation she was awarded following accusations of harassment and bullying.
Mr Devine is yet to hand over any of the £35,000 settled on by the tribunal, which recently ruled that he had harassed and bullied Ms Kinley, who worked for him in 2005 after he was elected to parliament.
Discussing the lack of payment, Ms Kinley remarked: "It's been over six weeks since I won my case for constructive dismissal and I have not received a single penny of my award."
Mr Devine may be prevented from selling his home until she receives her compensation, while his resettlement grant - given to former MPs when they quit the Commons - could also be seized.
This follows reports of whistleblower Janet Merrigan of the University of Gloucestershire winning an employment tribunal after she was excluded from meetings and sidelined in her position.
