Officials in Bradford have issued an apology to a widow who received a parking ticket while preparing for the funeral of her husband.

According to Keighley News, Gail Steward was issued with the penalty after she partially left her vehicle over double yellow lines on Haworth Main Street, despite a plea from a friend to the traffic warden on duty.

However, the fine has now been rescinded after a complaint was made to Bradford City Council.

Paul Ratcliffe, parking services manager at the authority, told the news source that the council is sorry for "any distress caused" to the bereaved car owner.

"Given the circumstances our civil enforcement officer asked for permission to cancel the ticket and this was done at the scene," he added.

Mrs Steward stated that she was "so upset" by being issued with the ticket that she "ran down the street crying".

This comes after a man from Carlisle had a parking ticket cancelled after an appeal over the penalty which was issued because he placed his vehicle at the edge of a pay and display site, the News & Star reported.
