Ofgem unveils new energy pricing rules

Homeowners across the country are set to benefit from new rules relating to the pricing of energy which have been unveiled today (March 28th 2011) by Ofgem.
The regulatory body has confirmed that any significant changes to the contracts of customers in terms of the rate they are charged for services can only be implemented following a notice period of 30 days from the supplier.
This follows on from Ofgem last week revealing it is introducing several new guidelines into the sector in an attempt to provide more choice for consumers, including a measure to make it compulsory for the biggest companies to auction off 20 per cent of their electricity output.
Andrew Wright, senior partner for markets at the body, explained that the 30-day notice period rule will come into effect on April 28th this year.
He added the alterations are intended to "give consumers more power to make informed switching choices".
