The National Landlords Association has reported that one-fifth of its private residential landlords have had tenants in rent arrears in the last three months.

According to the group, 21 per cent of owners experienced this problem in the second quarter of 2010.

In the previous such period, 24.5 per cent of landlords reported this trend.

David Salusbury, chairman of the organisation, stated that the data represents "a small improvement in that more tenants are keeping up with their rent payments and not putting pressure on their landlords who may well have mortgage repayments to consider".

Nevertheless, he added that issues relating to rent arrears remain a problem for homeowners across the country.

Mr Salusbury asserted that tenants and landlords should cooperate in terms of finding solutions to financial problems.

Meanwhile, Douglas & Gordon recently indicated that property prices in central London will remain stable in the months ahead, following gradual increases in 2010.ADNFCR-2353-ID-19905049-ADNFCR
