Over 18,000 parking tickets handed out on road last year

Over the course of last year, a total of 18,668 parking tickets were handed out to motorists on Chiswick High Road.

This is according to figures cited in the Richmond and Twickenham Times, which suggested that an average of 51 such tickets were issued each day.

Responding to the findings, Nigel Humphries, a spokesman for the Association of British Drivers, criticised the local authority.

He remarked: "Councils claim that fines are about keeping the road clear and enforcing the law, but the regulation is just a money earner and a way to try to stop us using our cars."

However, a spokesman for Hounslow Council - which is headquartered on Lampton Road in Hounslow - defended the charges.

He said that, when the length of the road is taken into account, the number of penalty charge notices that have been issued is not excessive because a lot of cars use it.
