Parents sue for clinical negligence

A couple from Leeds are suing the NHS for clinical negligence after their three-day-old son died from, they claim, a lethal infection, the signs of which were missed by doctors.
Emma Collins fell ill three weeks before her due date, giving birth to Logan at Pontefract hospital, with her son discharged less than a day afterwards in spite of the parents' concerns regarding his breathing, the BBC reports.
A midwife visiting the family said Logan was congested with mucus but the following day he stopped breathing and was taken to hospital, where he died as a result of a pneumoccocal infection passed on from Ms Collins.
"You believe the people who've got the qualifications, if they say it's right then it's right," she remarked. "Logan's breathing was gargly and they said it was mucus so we just believed it."
This comes after two patients were awarded millions of pounds in compensation from the University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust after sustaining brain damage during heart surgery operations, the Evening Post reported.
