Parking ticket revoked following appeal

A parking ticket given to a man under controversial circumstances has been revoked following a tribunal.

Online news resource Get Hampshire reports that Adrian Tate was issued with a penalty by a warden after leaving his vehicle for around ten minutes while purchasing a balloon for his daughter's birthday in Fleet town centre.

Mr Tate parked his car in an area with goods loading restrictions, but is just one of in excess of 12,000 people who have been given fines due to the confusing signage in the urban area.

He therefore contacted local campaigner Peter Ashford who helped him win a case in which it was stated these rules cannot be legally enforced, meaning his ticket was overturned.

"The adjudicator agreed with me that the parking sign is contrary to statutory requirements and is misleading," Mr Ashford commented.

This comes after the Whitby Gazette reported recently that a taxi driver had a penalty of £60, which was issued to him as he dropped an elderly customer off, revoked upon appeal.
