Parking tickets at shopping centre come under fire

Ylr-news-19438353

The number of parking tickets given to drivers using Sheffield's Meadowhall shopping centre has been criticised.

According to new figures, Parking Control Management handed out tickets worth a combined total of over £9,000 in one three-hour session recently.

The firm was said to have issued penalties of £95 to almost 100 road users who had parked illegally.

One of those caught out was 66-year-old skip firm manager Roger O'Brien, who was clamped after parking in a taxi rank for ten minutes.

He remarked: "They said they expect to clamp 1,000 people this week - that's £95,000 in one week alone."

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Meadowhall centre said Parking Control Management had been brought in after complaints about parking in restricted areas.

He added that Meadowhall does not benefit from any of the fines the firm imposes.

Recently, the number of drivers from Maidenhead who were issued parking tickets for leaving their vehicles in their own street revealed they were considering launching a petition in protest, the Maidenhead Advertiser reported.
