Parking tickets illegally issued, expert says

An industry expert has said that motoring tickets are being issued illegally in a number of parts of the UK, such as Manchester, London, Birmingham, Bath and Edinburgh.

Chris Leithead, the former chief of the Metropolitan Police traffic division and traffic consultant, told the Daily Telegraph that local authorities are handing out fines in areas with unlawful signs.

Inadequate postings include those more than 60 ms apart, unclear or ambiguous posters, double yellow lines without T-bars to indicate the end of a parking restriction and worn out road markings.

Noting that millions of tickets have been sent out illegally, Mr Leithead observed that councils are cashing in on the fact that the majority of drivers are unaware that the signs are unlawful and will "just pay up to get it out of the way".

It follows a report by the news source that the cost of motoring tickets could climb by 40 per cent should proposals from the British Parking Association be given the go-ahead.ADNFCR-2353-ID-800096421-ADNFCR
