Pension schemes are by far the most popular employee benefit among professionals in the UK, new research has revealed.

A study conducted by the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP) has found that 85 per cent of all workers across the country are offered such initiatives by their company.

The second most popular benefit provided was healthcare - something 54 per cent of those questioned identified - with salary sacrifice initiatives coming in third with a total of 52 per cent.

Meanwhile, 40 per cent of the 380 people surveyed indicated their firm offers membership body fees as part of their contract.

Diana Bruce, senior policy liaison officer at the CIPP, remarked that such additions to remuneration packages are vital to create a healthy working atmosphere in the wake of the global economic downturn as wage hikes remain "few and far between" at present.

This comes after XpertHR revealed last week (September 2nd) that many performance-related pay schemes fail to motivate employees. ADNFCR-2353-ID-800720705-ADNFCR
