People in debt must not ignore problem, expert says

Britons struggling with debt must make sure they do not bury their heads in the sand and instead confront the issue sooner rather than later.
That is the view of Carole Spiers, chief executive of the Carole Spiers Group, who has offered advice to anyone suffering financially in the aftermath of the global economic downturn.
Ms Spiers explained that money worries often manifest themselves as "anxiety and depression", which are states of mind that can lead to people deciding to avoid dealing with important matters in their life and instead behave irresponsibly.
"The worst thing that can happen is that an individual goes into denial and ignores the problem, refuses to open bills and mail and continues to spend recklessly," she added.
This comes after Paul Lewis, vice president of Credit Confidential, urged students going away on gap years to make sure they keep up with their credit card payments to ensure their debt does not spiral out of control.
