People selling homes 'can expect value increases next year'

Ylr-news-19518632

Homeowners looking to sell their properties next year may welcome predictions by the Building Societies Association (BSA) that houses and flats will increase in value.

According to the organisation, an average rise of three per cent will occur across the UK in 2010.

This figure, which was arrived at in the BSA Property Tracker survey, is significantly more positive than the minus 8.6 per cent anticipated during the same month last year.

Responding to the data, the organisation - which is a trade association for Britain's 52 building societies - said the results show an upturn in confidence.

Head of mortgage policy at the BSA Paul Broadhead remarked: "The recent stabilisation of house prices over the latter part of the year is clearly reducing pessimism in the housing market."

The organisation did, however, issue a note of caution. It claimed that unemployment and the problems consumers are experiencing raising property deposits will hold the market back.
