People suffering race discrimination 'should take case to tribunal'

Ylr-news-19418645

Those who believe they are experiencing race discrimination at the hands of their employers should consider taking them to a tribunal, one government official has stated.

Minister for employment and welfare reform Jim Knight said that the Race Relations Act is there to protect people who are making claims about the company that they work for and they will receive support from the European Human Rights Commission.

His comments follow a recent study by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) that found recruiters are less likely to progress an application from someone who has a name that suggests they come from an ethnic minority background.

He remarked: "This research clearly shows that some employers are discriminating when it comes to choosing staff. This has no place in a modern society and racial discrimination cannot be allowed to continue."

According to the DWP, the issue was investigated due to an "unexplained gap" in the number of people employed from ethnic minority groups compared to the general population of British residents.ADNFCR-2353-ID-19418645-ADNFCR
