Pet owners 'cannot find rental accommodation'
Posted by Emily Swanson
A lack of pet-friendly rental accommodation is leading to an increasing number of people being forced to give up their animals.
Head of intake at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home in south London Liz McWalter stated the facility is now in danger of having to turn animals away due to a lack of space.
Speaking to the Guardian, she said: "We're seeing a lot of owners coming to us when they are left with no option but to give up their pet because of housing problems."
Ms McWalter added owners should never have to resort to dumping or abandoning their pet as a result of not being able to find a home for them.
Creator of the website Pet Friendly Rentals Darren Lock suggests landlords should be more open to the idea of having pets stay in their properties.
Chris Horne, editor at Property Hawk, recently predicted a shortage of rental houses is likely to continue over the coming weeks and months.
