Peter Williamson, chair of the Solicitors Regulation Authority

Home > NEWS > Peter Williamson, chair of the Solicitors Regulation Authority

The Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA) was set up in 2006 to regulate all solicitors in England and Wales. Previously the Law Society was responsible for both the regulation and representation of solicitors.

The separation of these two roles followed an independent review of the legal professions carried out by Sir David Clementi in 2004. His report is also the blueprint for a Bill now going through Parliament, which will set up an independent Legal Services Board. This will oversee the regulation of the legal professions, including the work of the SRA.

This podcast interview with Peter Williamson discusses the role of the new organisation and the impact this will have on consumers.
