Pre-nups 'becoming more common'

Ylr-news-19347297

Prenuptial agreements are becoming more common in the UK, according to a legal expert.

Speaking to the Guardian, Amandeep Gill claimed there has been a rise in the number of enquiries concerning such documents.

She said: "I think the current economic climate is a big factor. Most people who have worked hard to achieve their wealth want to hang onto it and a pre-nup is de rigour these days."

Ms Gill added that women are "a bit more realistic" about relationships these days concerning whether or not they will last.

In addition, there are now more women who have generated their own wealth through work than there were in the past.

These women have worked hard to make their money and want to "hang on to it", Ms Gill claimed.

Earlier this year, researchers at the University of Denver found that if couples live together before getting married, they are more likely to get divorced.

Whereas a fifth of those who lived together prior to marriage had since suggested divorce, 12 per cent of couples who moved in together after becoming engaged and ten per cent of those who did not cohabit before getting married had discussed getting a legal separation.
