The Legal Complaints Service (LCS) is an independent complaints-handling body. It was set up in January 2006 when the Law Society separated representation, regulation and complaints handling. Previously the LCS was known as the Consumer Complaints Service and before that as the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors.
In three years' time, there will be further change. The Legal Services Act will set up a new complaints body called the Office of Legal Complaints. It will handle complaints about all legal advisers, not just solicitors.
This interview is with Professor Shamit Saggar, who is the chair of the LCS, and discusses the role of the organisation and how it deals with complaints about solicitors, and whether this will change in future.
