Radio presenter to sue Jacqui Smith for defamation

Ylr-news-19280823

A radio presenter from the US is seeking to take legal action against former home secretary Jacqui Smith.

Talk-radio host Michael Savage, whose show is listened to by around ten million viewers in America, accuses the politician of making defamatory comments.

While still in her role, Ms Smith included him on a list of "undesirables".

The list had on it terrorists and criminals and she included Mr Savage because she said he was responsible for "fomenting hate".

As yet, there has been no apology from the British government.

Mr Savage said: "In time, I will clear my name, receive an apology from the British government - or the Queen - deliver a speech before the British parliament and present the British people the gift of freedom of speech, for which their forefathers died."

Ms Smith is the MP for Redditch, Inkberrow, Feckenham and Cookhill and she was promoted to government in 1999.
