Rail passengers to receive compensation 'for 7-hour journey'

Ylr-news-19326460

Approximately 100 rail passengers - several of whom were Norwich City football fans - are set to receive compensation after a journey from London Liverpool Street to Norwich took seven hours.

The 23:30 BST National Express East Anglia service broke down twice on Tuesday (August 18th) evening, failing to arrive in Norwich until 06:00 BST on the morning of August 19th.

"We are carrying out a full investigation into the causes of the disruption and reviewing our response to this incident," said Andrew Chivers, managing director of the transport firm, according to the Norwich Evening News.

He offered his "sincere apologies" for the incident and said passengers will be able to claim "further recompense" for the journey in addition to claiming for a full refund of the cost of their ticket under the delay repay compensation scheme.

Under new EU regulations, passengers will be able to get a full refund on their ticket if their train is delayed by more than one hour when the new rules come into force in December.

They will be eligible to claim money back if they are informed of the delays before the journey starts, the Telegraph reported.
