REC: Many firms planning to hire in 2012

A significant number of employers are planning to increase the size of their workforce during 2012, a new study has revealed.
The latest Jobs Outlook research published yesterday (January 26th) by the Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) - which represents more than 9,000 members - found that while many companies are cautious about hiring, they remain eager to strengthen in 2012.
It was established that a lot of firms want to wait for an upturn in the UK's economic prospects before committing to a large-scale recruitment drive but are willing to hire should the right candidate become available.
Indeed, some 63 per cent of organisations stated they are looking to increase their headcount this year, with 59 per cent intending to take on more full-time staff members.
Roger Tweedy, director of research at the REC, commented: "Most employers have retrenched to a much more cautious 'wait and see' approach … [but] this confidence index is still five points above its lowest mark last September."
