Research: 59% of drivers unaware of new insurance regulation
Posted by Craig Williams
Many motorists in the UK remain unaware of forthcoming alterations to the way in which the country's car insurance system operates, a new study has shown.
Mike Penning, road safety minister, laid the final regulations of the Continuous Insurance Enforcement proposal in parliament earlier this week, which, when they are implemented into law, will make it compulsory for people to hold insurance cover for all vehicles they own.
Therefore, it will be unlawful for drivers just to keep an uninsured car, as well as driving such a vehicle.
However, according to research conducted by the AA, 59 per cent of Britons have not even heard of this new legislation, while 38 per cent of those who have indicated they did not properly understand the details of it.
Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, commented: "This tough action is to be welcomed but it is vital that the government undertakes a campaign to increase awareness."
