Research: More people looking to purchase homes
Posted by Helen Jones
Demand figures in the UK housing market have peaked at a six-month high in January, as more people look to buy new properties.
This is according to a new market report by the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA), which found that the number of individuals opting for estate agents to buy homes jumped from an average of 227 in December 2010 to 252 last month.
While the figure is still down considerably from the 291 recorded in January 2010, Michael Jones, president of the NAEA, is pleased with the results.
He explained: "It is encouraging to see activity levels begin to increase following the downturn we saw in December, where bad weather and the Christmas festivities kept many house hunters away."
Furthermore, the NAEA report found that the number of houses available per branch has also increased from 64 each in December 2010 to 69 in January.
Those in the market for a new home were recently told by Catherine Hearnden, director at My Mortgage Direct, that any base rate interest increase in 2011 should have no bearings on their chances of acquiring a property.
