Research: Most employers to allow workers time off for royal wedding
Posted by Helen Jones
The majority of employees across the UK will get to enjoy an extra day off this month thanks to the royal wedding, new research has shown.
According to a study conducted by the Chartered Institute of Payroll Professionals (CIPP), 88 per cent of organisations across the country have decided to permit their members of staff to benefit from the government's decision to declare April 29th as an extra bank holiday.
Despite this measure from the Conservative-Liberal Democrat alliance, firms are not legally obliged to give their workers the time off, but it seems that many are opting to do so.
Karen Thompson, associate director of policy, research and strategic visibility at the CIPP, labelled this "pleasing" and added: "With David Cameron saying people should not worry about rules from councils in respect of street parties it is a good job we all have the Monday off too!"
This comes after the government recently announced an increase in the national minimum wage.
