Median pay awards for employees across all sectors in the UK are on their way up, new research has shown.

According to a study published recently (March 17th 2011) by XPertHR, the opening months of 2011 have witnessed such payments become upwardly mobile in comparison to one year previously.

For instance, the data revealed that a median basic pay award in Britain was worth 2.3 per cent at the end of last month, a figure 1.3 percentage points higher than the statistic posted in February 2010.

Meanwhile, XPertHR also found that around 50 per cent of all pay deals are worth between two and three per cent, with more than 70 per cent being in excess of what they were one year ago.

Sheila Attwood, pay and benefits editor at XPertHR, observed: "The headline pay award - at 2.3 per cent - is now at its highest level for more than two years."

Meanwhile, the Federation of Small Businesses has urged the government to make provisions for entrepreneurs in the upcoming budget.
