Higher pay rises are still not yet being awarded by many organisations in the UK even though there is a definite trend of upward wage pressures at present, new research has established.

According to a study conducted by XpertHR, many companies remain wary of allowing significant salary hikes in the aftermath of the global economic downturn, despite various factors dictating this should really be the case.

For instance, the specialist pay body noted that the majority of employees across all sectors have not benefitted from a wage rise throughout the last two years but will expect to be recompensed in 2011 as the retail prices index measure of inflation has now climbed to 5.3 per cent.

However, the organisation's pay forecast survey shows the expected median pay increase to be just two per cent this year.

This comes after Dr John Philpott of the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development said recently that the UK's jobs outlook remains uncertain for 2011.
