Risk of divorces 'higher over festive season'
Over the Christmas period, there is a rise in the number of people seeking divorces, it has been claimed.
According to Matt Buttery, chief executive of the Family Matters Institute, this time of year can put a significant strain on couples, the London Evening Standard reports.
He stated: "Much divorce happens and a lot of relationships break down over Christmas because of family pressures."
The expert went on to suggest that there are "some great services" available to help people who are experiencing problems with their partners.
He added that, if things become tough, assistance should be sought.
Meanwhile, research published recently in the Journal of Police and Criminal Psychology revealed that individuals working in caring professions are more likely to seek a legal separation from their spouses than employees in many other sectors.
For example, nurses were said to face nearly a one in three (28 per cent) chance of divorce.
