Road accident victims 'will benefit from new compensation scheme'

Ylr-news-19377481

Victims of road accidents are set to benefit from a new compensation scheme.

Under the terms of the system, which was recently announced by the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), claims will be dealt with quicker.

It will apply to personal injury claims valued at between £1,000 and £10,000.

Responding to the development, the Association of British Insurers described it as positive.

Its director of general insurance and health Nick Starling said the move is something the association has been calling for.

He added: "It is now vital that employees injured at work have the same opportunity as those injured on our roads to benefit from this new process, so we call on the government to extend it to cover employers' liability insurance claims."

Meanwhile, Michael Willis MP from the MoJ described the scheme as a "significant step forward" for victims of car accidents, meaning they will receive payouts more quickly and fairly.
