Some dads in the UK are not aware of the employment rights they have to help them look after their children, it has been claimed.

According to employment relations minister Lord Young, research conducted by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills - which aims to grow the economy, from higher education to enterprise and business - shows that there are still some men who are missing out.

The department has launched a campaign aimed at making sure fathers know what they can do and instilling them with more confidence to approach employers and discuss the options open to them.

Figures published by the government body show that 56 per cent of men polled with children 16 and under said that they would look for an employer who offers flexible working conditions.

Also, 91 per cent of those with youngsters aged five or under stated they believe it is important that men have the option to take paid paternity leave.
