Speed cameras 'are not working'

Speed cameras used in Blackpool have been labelled cash cows amid suggestions the items are ineffective at preventing accidents.
The calls come after local police revealed details of which lenses have captured the most motorists, the Blackpool Gazette reports.
It was found that 4,600 drivers were snapped by 21 fixed cameras in the town over the last year, resulting in £105,480 fines being handed out.
However, the statistics revealed car accidents have increased in the region since the speed cameras were installed, with four people killed or seriously injured on one street - George Road in Layton - since 2002.
Richard Hook, local resident and former member of the Association of British Motorists - a voluntary and not-for-profit organisation that campaigns on a range of driving issues - said: "It's a tax, it's a cash cow. The figures don't show how many accidents there have been half a mile before the speed camera."
