Stafford Hospital accepts help to handle complaints backlog

Stafford Hospital has accepted an offer from Staffordshire County Council (SCC) to help it sift through a backlog of over 200 complaints for the next three months.
According to local paper the Stoke Sentinel, the health centre has set a goal in place that all queries will be dealt with in line with the NHS national standard for responses by the start of December.
Matthew Ellis, cabinet member for adults and wellbeing with SCC, noted that it is vital individuals receive timely answers to questions relating to personal care or that of their friends and family.
"Complaints, as well as fulfilling their primary function of highlighting a specific issue, are crucial in identifying how to improve the services people receive," he continued.
Another hospital that may soon be making similar moves is NHS Bolton, which received 246 complaints in the year between April 2009 and April 2010, the Bolton News reports.
