Status quo regarding women in business 'must be changed'

Ylr-news-19486269

Women aiming to make it to the top of the business world are still subject to discrimination and a change in the status quo is therefore required.

This is according to Derek Smart from the Association of Executive Recruiters, who said that women are often under-represented on the boards of private sector firms.

His comments come in the wake of research commissioned by the Government Equality Office - which was set up more than two years ago - that found female candidates are often put off applying for senior roles because they believe "old boy's networks" still exist.

Mr Smart stated: "Those in the front line of executive recruitment agree that women are too often poorly represented on private sector company boards."

Female employees working in the public sector experience greater equality than those in private enterprise, he added, suggesting that companies that discriminate against women are missing out on "valuable talent".
