High morale among staff members at any organisation can be maintained during periods of change through strong line management, an expert has said.

According to Dilys Robinson, principal research fellow at the Institute for Employment Studies (IES), this could represent a crucial area within a company in the post-recession landscape, meaning that senior staff need to be given the tools and materials to properly support their employees.

Ms Robinson explained that line managers are often "predominantly responsible for the mood of the team and an effective, encouraging, engaging manager can motivate the team to produce excellent results even when times are difficult".

The IES official went on to stress that organisations must make sure their management teams are both fully trained and supported in this regard for the process to work.

Meanwhile, research conducted earlier this week (February 1st 2011) by Capita HR Solutions found that around two-thirds of all workers had heard about organisational changes at their firm through rumour rather than from their employer.
