Student accommodation in cities 'a good investment option'
Posted by Chris Stevenson
Landlords searching for an attractive location in which to expand their property portfolio in the near future may want to consider making a purchase in areas around universities in London.
That is according to Liam Bailey, head of residential research at Knight Frank, who has said there is a major shortage of accommodation space in the surrounding regions of higher education institutions in the capital.
Mr Bailey explained that there is currently a "huge demand" for houses from foreign students moving to the city ahead of the beginning of the 2011-12 academic year, meaning this urban area represents a strong investment opportunity for landlords.
"University accommodation in London is very, very undersupplied," he noted.
The expert went on to say there is also a similar situation occurring in other regions across the country, such as Manchester and Cambridge.
Recently (September 7th), Savills revealed that student housing in first class locations is likely to perform well in the next decade.
