Students 'could benefit from existing insurance arrangements'

Ylr-news-800029218

Many students planning their first foray into higher education might be interested to learn that their parents' home contents insurance can provide cover for a number of vital items.

At a time when the latest batch of school-leavers are making arrangements for a spell at university, Aviva has outlined the importance of accounting for unwanted eventualities.

The organisation has noted that its standard household contents policy covers £5,000 worth of possessions.

Jonathan Cracknell, household underwriter at Aviva, state that once accommodation and tuition fees have been considered, "it might come as a surprise to many parents to discover that they might not have to pay anything extra to insure their children's belongings".

The group also offers extra bicycle cover for those looking to lock up their two-wheeler.

Meanwhile, the Identity and Passport Service has noted figures from the government which showed more than 60,000 Britons had their passports lost or stolen between April 2009 and March 2010.
