Going away on a gap year is no excuse for Britons to stop making payments on their credit card, an expert has said.

According to Paul Lewis, vice president of Credit Confidential, it is absolutely essential for all people at university to keep up with their schedules in order to avoid the possibility of their debt spiralling out of control.

"If it's a gap year or you're a fresher at university it's very important to adopt sensible, responsible financial habits," he noted.

Mr Lewis went on to urge all scholars to adhere to "the general points about budgeting" regardless of what stage of their degree they are at, meaning factors such as taking time to analyse which banks and student accounts are best for their needs.

Earlier this month, a study by Standard Life established that people in the UK are continuing to spend more than they save and the Credit Confidential official warned students not to fall into the trap of avoiding their repayments. ADNFCR-2353-ID-800760715-ADNFCR
