Study: Degree results have large impact on salaries

Graduates leaving university with a lower-class degree earn significantly less than their higher-achieving contemporaries in the world of work, new research has shown.

A study conducted by Adzuna - a search engine for classified adverts - has revealed that job candidates with either a 2:2 or Third classification are paid an average of £8,000 less than those searching for employment with either a First or 2:1.

This equates to a discrepancy of some £300,000 over the course of a full career, meaning it is vital for people going to university to select a course suited to their strengths in order to make sure they are successful.

Meanwhile, the research established a gap in the salaries of individuals completing different degrees, with courses like computer science and maths resulting in much larger wages than alternatives such as art and sociology.

Recently, a survey by Kronos and the Workforce Institute revealed that younger workers are much more likely than their older colleagues to 'pull a sickie'. ADNFCR-2353-ID-800742580-ADNFCR
