Study: Money causes most concern among Britons
Posted by Francesca Witney
Money remains the primary cause for concern among Britons in the aftermath of the global economic downturn, new research has shown.
According to figures published yesterday (December 19th) by the Samaritans, some 50 per cent of people are most worried about their bank balance or debt problems, with 58 per cent fearing they will not be able to live comfortably in 2012.
Meanwhile, 33 per cent are most concerned about problems in their personal lives, with 32 per cent indicating physical health issues are their greatest cause to feel troubled.
Catherine Johnstone, chief executive of Samaritans, observed that worrying about personal finances represents a growing trend in the UK.
"Since the onset of the financial crisis in 2008, the number of people calling us about their money worries has doubled," she added.
This comes after Andrew Hagger of Moneynet called on Britons to put cash aside throughout the year so they can afford Christmas without getting into debt.
