Study: Pay awards remain static

Salary increases across the UK employment sector have remained static in recent months, new research has shown.

According to the latest analysis into pay awards by XpertHR published today (December 16th), wage rises stayed at two per cent in the three months leading up to November 30th as the country continues to struggle in the wake of the recession.

This represents the eighth consecutive rolling quarter in which salary hikes have not gone up - a fact that is a clear indication that companies are finding it tough to reward their members of staff with more money.

Indeed, complete pay freezes were found to be common in certain industries such as the public and retail sectors.

Sheila Attwood, pay and benefits editor at XpertHR, observed: "We expect to see improving pay settlement levels in 2012, but pay rises will continue to lag inflation."

Recently, Dr Clare Kelliher of the Cranfield School of Management indicated that companies are compensating for a lack of pay hikes through offering flexible working.ADNFCR-2353-ID-801241669-ADNFCR
