Those planning to engage in DIY 'should check insurance'
Posted by Emily Jones
Homeowners planning to get involved in DIY projects have been advised to check the details of their insurance policies first.
Failing to do so could lead to unforeseen costs if problems arise, according to M&S Money.
The organisation noted that spring is one of the most popular times of year for people to tackle home improvements.
However, even simple projects such as painting an area do not always go to plan, it warned.
Research conducted by M&S Money found that one fifth of so-called 'DIY dads' admitted they had spilled paint on carpets and flooring while decorating.
"We would urge people to check their home insurance policy covers them for accidental damage and whether there is a limit to this cover," stated the firm's head of general insurance Andrew Ferguson.
Recently, moneysupermarket.com revealed that more than 400,000 consumers have defrauded their cover providers by making false home insurance claims.
