Thousands issued parking tickets in Cheltenham
A total of nearly 30,000 parking tickets have been issued in Cheltenham in the last 17 months, it has been found.
According to figures from Cheltenham Borough Council - which is headquartered in the town's Municipal Offices on the Promenade - 29,955 such tickets were handed to motorists during the period, thisisgloucestershire.co.uk reports.
In total, the local authority charged people who had committed parking offences £834,751.
One resident who contributed to these figures is heating firm owner Stuart White.
He expressed dissatisfaction at new parking rules introduced by the authority, saying: "The council have ruined the free parking spaces.
"All the spaces that I used to know to nip into Cheltenham on a weekend have now gone, to force people to park in multi-story car parks in the town centre."
Meanwhile, John Morris, cabinet member for the built environment, revealed that whereas there used to be two traffic wardens for the town, there are now 12 civilian enforcement officers.
