Travel insurance vital 'despite volcanic exclusions'

It is vital that people take out cover policies when they are heading abroad, it has been noted.

According to Rachael Stiles, personal finance editor at the Fair Investment Company, despite the fact that many insurance products do not offer protection for the disruption caused by the volcanic eruption in Iceland, consumers cannot afford to go without it.

She noted that holidaymakers can still suffer from illness, injury, or delays and cancellations for reasons other than volcanoes.

Ms Stiles added: "Furthermore, there are still some travel insurance providers which have said they will pay out for claims resulting from disruptions of volcanic proportions, so in some instances you can still get covered for it."

Heading to foreign countries with no cover in place can be a costly mistake, she went on to state.

Although there was a lull in the problems caused for travellers by the volcano, flights are once again being grounded intermittently in the UK as a result of further drifts of ash.
