Consumers could be losing out on value-for-money when purchasing their travel money, it has been suggested.

According to M&S Travel Money, many people are unaware that branches across the country offer varying rates for foreign currencies.

It found that 66 per cent of those studied wrongly assumed that purchasing holiday cash on the high street would lead to the same charge irrespective of their location.

The findings also showed that 69 per cent of holidaymakers buy foreign currency before embarking on their excursion.

James Yerkess, head of Travel Money at the organisation, stated: "It's encouraging that so many holidaymakers are buying their travel money in advance, as it's always a good idea to buy before you fly."

The company also revealed that insurance is one of the most common purchases among travellers.

Recently, WalesOnline reported the story of pensioner Neville Fisher, who travelled to a hotel in Tenerife and claimed the hygiene standards were not up to scratch.ADNFCR-2353-ID-19890150-ADNFCR
