Will disputes 'on the increase'
There has been an increase in the number of people disputing the details of wills, it has been claimed.
According to legal expert Adam Draper, there has been a jump in such legal battles as family structures in the UK have become more complex, the Birmingham Post reports.
The rising value of estates has also contributed to the trend, he suggested.
Mr Draper stated: "The court will find that a will is invalid if the person who made the will did not have capacity, was subject to undue influence or did not understand the nature of the document they signed."
He added that the legal documents can also be overturned when they are valid but do not make 'reasonable financial provision' for certain categories of people.
These include children, spouses, civil partners and dependents.
Writing in the FT Adviser recently, PMS development director Martin Reynolds said the unorthodox nature of modern living makes drawing up wills all the more important.
