The process of making wills is important as the legal documents can help make grieving for a loved one easier.

This is according to Paul Sharpe, chairman of the Institute of Professional Willwriters (IPW), who noted that companies that are involved in helping consumers with wills should provide a good service.

He stated: "The loss of a loved one is one of the most stressful times in a person's life. Everyone should make a will and that will should be made right first time."

Mr Sharpe's remark came after a code of practice developed by the IPW received approval from the Office of Fair Trading.

The institute - which is managed by an elected council of eight members and has offices in Halesowen and Edinburgh - gained the recognition under the Consumer Code of Approval Scheme.

Firms that operate under the code have to fulfil a number of rules, including providing consumers with a seven-day cooling off period and passing an entrance exam.
