Women 'fear discrimination in the City'
Posted by Mark Cunningham
There are concerns among women that they will be subject to sex discrimination if they assume careers in the City.
This is according to a poll of students at Oxford University, which revealed that 85 per cent of female undergraduates questioned believed they would receive unfair treatment if they worked in the financial services sector within the Square Mile, reports the Times.
It was also found that seven in ten of the 450 respondents thought they would have poorer prospects for promotion, while around half said they would be discriminated against in terms of culture and remuneration.
Responding to the attitudes of those polled in Oxford - which currently has more than 20,000 students - Lesley McLeod from the British Bankers' Association said: "The balance of women getting senior positions in banking is slowly changing."
However, the process is "perhaps slower than many of us would like", she went on to state.
