Worker receives payout for workplace accident
A man has received compensation as a result of injuries he sustained while at work.
Firefighter James Attenborough from Kings Langley in Hertfordshire was engaged in training when he suffered damage to his neck.
He was involved in a rope exercise when he was dropped a short distance on three occasions, causing his head to snap back.
As a result, he sustained whiplash - which occurs when the ligaments in the neck are sprained.
Although the ligaments are not broken in such an injury they can take a long time to heal.
Recently, Mr Attenborough reached an out-of-court settlement with Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, which admitted breach of duty.
He stated: "My neck has not yet fully recovered but I am back at work. It does get stiff at times and I have to be careful."
Mr Attenborough added that firefighters should be using the correct equipment at all times and he felt that the only way he could get this message across was by taking legal action.
