Workers 'at risk of invalidating car insurance'
Posted by Emily Jones
Many workers may potentially be invalidating their car insurance by using their vehicles for work purposes, it has been claimed.
According to Gocompare.com, 72 per cent of employees have used their motors in this way.
The insurance comparison site pointed out that, if their policies do not specify that cover is provided for work use, they may not be able to claim in the event of damage.
Business development director of Gocompare.com Lee Griffin remarked: "Employers have a legal responsibility to ensure that, irrespective of its owner, vehicles used on company business are safe to use - this includes being fully insured for business usage."
He went on to say that firms should not assume staff members with private car insurance are covered for driving their cars while they are at work.
Earlier this month, M&S Home Insurance revealed it had seen a surge in claims made by homeowners for water damage caused by pipes bursting during the freezing weather conditions.
