Workers 'increasingly suffering due to workplace bullying'
Workplace bullying is becoming increasingly prevalent in the UK, it has been claimed.
According to figures produced by Unison, more than one-third of 7,000 people recently polled had experienced such maltreatment over the last six months.
This is almost double the figure recorded when the organisation - which claims to represent more than 1.3 million members - conducted a similar survey 12 years ago.
"Workers have the right to earn a decent living in a safe environment. They need to be treated with respect and not forced to take time off work because bullying has made them ill," stated Unison general secretary Dave Prentis.
He described the figures as "shocking" and called on employers to look after their workforces, claiming it makes both moral and financial sense to do so.
Mr Prentis also pointed to recent figures which suggested that over 13 million working days are lost in Britain each year due to stress and depression suffered by employees.
